The Best Mother's Day Ever!

                           

Ah, Mother's Day.  A day I have waited for my whole life.  Correction- a day I have waited for until it was "my turn" to celebrate; a special day with MY kids.  Today was that day.  If you read my blog, you're well aware of my obsession with Lucy. So you might understand my feelings toward a day all about a Mother's sacred bond with her child.  I grew up knowing that Mother's day was a day we spent showing thanks for all our Mom's do for us.  I know the importance of today.  I used to wake my Mom up with breakfast in Bed, pick her Lilacs, and just spend the day in general telling her how much I truly love her.  She is such a strong, beautiful woman, and such a perfect example of what a Mom is.  So naturally, I was ecstatic about my first Mother's Day.  All I asked for was a day spent with Lucy and Shawn.  These 2 are the reason that I am a Mom, and all I wanted was to embrace the day with them.  I wanted to squeeze and hold and kiss Lucy all day long. 

Here's what I will always remember about today:

I'll remember my breakfast in bed made by Shawn because Lu stole my utensils and tried to eat all of my french toast.  She got butter in her hair and all :)

I'll remember getting Lucy dressed for the day because she had a "Mom" shirt on that made me smile from ear to ear. 

I'll remember the new shirt I received from Shawn because Lucy ripped the tissue paper that it was wrapped in, in a hundred pieces on the bed and giggled the whole time.

I'll remember the hike we went on because it was Lucy's first hike and she was in heaven!  And I'll remember how sweet she was when she fell asleep going down the trail even though it was such a bumpy ride in her pack.

I'll also remember being surrounded by so much breath-taking natural beauty and feeling the Spirit in that way that spending time away from the world enjoying mother nature can allow you to feel.  I silently gave thanks to Heavenly Father for all my blessings and for giving me a perfect baby girl to mother.

I'll remember getting smoothies after our hike because Lucy LOVED the whipped cream on top of mine.

I'll remember hanging out on the couch after our hike because Lucy was putting golf balls in her mouth and popping them out.  Shawn and I would laugh so hard, so Lucy would join in and fake laugh out loud with us. 

I'll remember the night of my first Mother's day because I kissed LuLu's rosy cheek before bed, and once again, marveled at the beauty this little girl brings to this world, and the utter joy she brings to my heart.  

I'll remember my first Mother's Day because it has been a long time coming, and it was absolutely perfect.  I am a Mom because Heavenly Father has given me a Princess.  And I am eternally thankful for her.

MMMmmmm, I love me some Jeggings!

For those of you who may not know, Jeggings are: Jeans + Leggings = Jeggings.   And Lucy looks mighty cute in hers.  They hug her curves in all the right places :) Had a little photo shoot on her first day in them, and then I realized I mostly just took pictures of her cute face, not so much the pants.  She's too cute, I could eat her up!  My Dad says that those Jeans that are so tight on girls means that the girls were dipped in Jean Juice.  HAHAHAHA! I think I just might like that term better.  So whatever they may be, Jeggings or Jean Juice, Lucy wears them perfectly ;) Enjoy the pics!

When we were at the Howard's on Easter (Lucy was 10 months old), my sister Tiffany was telling me how crazy it was that she gave Keaton a little toy truck on his first birthday and right away he was rolling it around on the ground and making 'truck noises.'  I said "At 1 year's old?  I can't see Lucy doing something like that at all."  Tiff replied "Oh Britt, in the next 2 months she is going to change SO much.  It is so crazy all that will happen by her 1st birthday."  And just like that, Tiff's wisdom became manifested and her words rang true!

At 10 months, Lucy was still a chubby little baby!  At 11 1/2 months she is growing taller and thinning out a lot.  She has started crawling, pulling herself up on furniture, she can now sit through a whole 45 minute episode of Sesame Street without losing focus (I take advantage of this every night while I cook dinner).  She started saying "owie" (as mentioned below).  She regularly says "hi" "Ma" and "DaDa" "Yaaaay (accompanied with clapping)" and sometimes "No." She can understand simple rules like "Lucy, no."  "Lucy, don't touch."  "Lucy, eat your food."  "Time for a bath!"  "Let's go on a walk/bike ride/swimming, etc."  "Lucy, be soft."  "Lucy, give it to Mommy (an object that she's not supposed to have)."  And she has realized that she can be funny!  Shawn has a duck call that he uses when he goes duck hunting, and she knows how to blow in it to make the duck noise.  She blows in it and laughs her head off.  Then does it over and over, all the while making sure I'm watching her be her silly self.  She also knows that she isn't supposed to have pacifiers anymore, so she will find them and put them in her mouth and start cracking up like "Haha Mom- jokes on you! I can get into my box of binky's now!"  She does it to be funny and doesn't seriously hold them in her mouth for comfort, but when she is in a playful mood she gets into the things she isn't supposed to have and laughs through her mischief.  We took her off the bottle so she gets her milk only in Sippy cups now. She dances all the time now.  When commercials or my songs come on with any sort of beat, she starts bobbing up and down- MY FAVORITE THING EVER! She has started playing using her imagination (like Tiff said KJ did) and it amazes me!  She will pick up mine or Shawn's cell phone and hold it to her ear and start talking into it.  It is so funny!  Then she will hand it over to me, I'll proceed to have a conversation with an imaginary person who then "asks" to speak to Lucy.  I'll give the phone back to her and she will start "talking" again.  Too cute.  Another play time activity- she will go pick up her dolls and talk to them and give them kisses.  It is seriously the cutest thing to watch her make up her own games.  I could watch her all day!  She has also started to stand on her own!  She can make it about 30 seconds before falling, but I love it.  I can't wait for her to take her 1st steps.  It won't be by her 1st birthday, but I'm hoping it will be by 13 months so that when we go to Boise and CDA in June she can show off her skills to the family.

All in all, Tiff was so right on the mark.  Lucy has changed overnight it seems.  This is definitely the most change in the shortest amount of time that we've witnessed with her.  I love it so much.  It might not seem like a lot to read, but just being with her and watching her, you'd be amazed that 2 months ago I had a baby, and now I have a busy (almost) toddler.  Lots to love about the changes, and lots to miss about the past.  But we all have to grow up, so instead of feeling sad that my baby is gone, I can enjoy my spunky toddler.  I am proud of the laugh lines she has given me :)

As I tell her every day, I love "Little Miss" more than ALL the leaves on ALL the trees :)

Even if you aren't related to her, there is no denying that she's the most beautiful baby on the planet.

"Owie!"

The word heard most throughout our home these days? "Owie!" That's Lucy's new favorite word.  If she knows what it means, then she's trying to trick us into thinking that we're hurting her every time we do anything to her that she doesn't like.  If she doesn't know what it means, then she must just associate it with anger or sadness.  Because every time we wipe her face after eating- "OWIE!" Every time we change her diaper- "OWIE!"  Every time we get her dressed- "OWIE!" Every time we take something from her that she's not supposed to have- "OWIE!"  And she either screams it or just fake cries while moaning it loudly and she repeats it over and over.....can you say Drama Queen??

Oh Lucy.....What are we gonna do with you? ;)
