A Name and a Blessing

We had a special day for our little peanut yesterday.  She was given a "Grandfathers" blessing by my Dad- her Papa Smidt.  It was a small gathering with a few of my favorite people- my parents, her great grandparents, her Uncle Jess, and her Howard cousins.  She wore a cute white eyelet dress and baggy infant tights :)  As he held her in his arms, Papa said the sweetest words.  I wanted him to bless her because I don't know a more spiritual and wise man. But most importantly, a man who loves his little Lucy. To me, it was a very special day.

As he held my baby girl for her blessing, she "talked" right along with him with her sweet little voice.  Without going into too much detail, I'll write a summary of this special prayer. He spoke about her growing up and the things he wishes for her and wants for her and it brought tears to my eyes.  He listed attributes he hopes she has as she grows and told her how important she is; how she is a choice spirit and was saved for these Last Days.

I sincerely hope my baby girl always knows how much her Daddy and I love her.  I want her to grow up with strength and knowledge and the ability to "choose the right."  I pray she knows that she is an example to her parents and maybe someday she will understand that she was sent here to teach us many lessons about love and life.

I love you, Lucy Barbara.  Don't ever forget that.  You bring me so much joy and happiness. You hold my heart in your adorable, pudgy little hands, and I have never been more grateful for anything or anyone in my entire life.
