My Baby Turned 3

Lucy, you are 3 today.  You are no longer a little baby; I'm not even sure if you're a "toddler" anymore.  You're a kid.  To you, you're a "big girl" now.  To me, you'll always be my sweet baby girl.  You're still the little girl who showed me what true love is.  You're my angel and you are my pal.  You are feisty and hilarious, but you are precious and sweet.  And you are mine, all mine.
Lu Lu, I'll never forget the moment I found out I was pregnant with you, the moment I found out you were a girl, the moments I first felt your dances inside my belly, the moment I first saw your face and smelled your sweet scent, the moment I took you home for the first time, the first smiles you made and the first steps you took.  I remember your first birthday, your second birthday, the moment you first met your little sister, the day you got your ears pierced, and now I'll always remember the day you turned 3.  As you've grown, those are the biggest moments of your little life!  Those moments are cherished and etched in my mind and heart forever.  Those are the moments that have made you who you are today, and have helped shape me into who I am as well.  You see, Lucy, although you're only 3, you have changed my world completely and taught me more about life than one could ever dream possible.

I love the birthday blog posts I get to write because they give me a chance to fill my head with sweet memories of you and the beauty you've brought to my life.  You have brought me so much joy and love and you fill our house with laughter.  You are spunky and smart, sweet and caring, sugar and spice and everything nice.  You challenge me daily but I wouldn't trade you for all the silver and gold in the world: you are more precious and worth more than anything else.  You are my everything.  You are my world.

I love you more than ALL the leaves on ALL the trees.

We were lucky enough to get to celebrate with you at Silverwood the day before your birthday.  We let you call the shots.  Right off the bat you wanted to get on the Train that winds through the woods, has sub-par acting and lasts 30 minutes.....But you LOVED it.  You love trains and it was perfect because you chose it. You laughed so hard when the "Band-Its" knocked a man right off the roof of a Saloon!  Haha. You then rode the airplane ride 4 times in a row!  You could control how high up it went and you LOVED that.  Go figure- another thing in life that you get to control....Hehehe!

We went on some kiddy rides together (you were brave enough to lift your hands at the end of the little roller coaster) and some "adult" rides too!  The Umbrella ride must feel like you're flying to a 3 year old!  You and Piper both loved it and laughed as it tickled your tummies on the way down :)  It was a fun day for all of us, and we capped it off by taking you to the Silverwood toy store and buying you a souvenir to take home: a pretty little locket with your name on it.  We will have to put pictures from the day inside!
We put a pink "3" on your Funnel Cake so that it felt like a real Birthday Celebration for you :)
We went on the Tilt-a-whirl and Daddy (unknowingly) picked the one that spins NON STOP.  You loved it and squealed and laughed the whole time! Your sister, on the other hand, was a little nervous and I thought she looked a wee bit nauseous.... Sorry Pipes!

This morning you chose NOT to have breakfast in bed, but instead ran downstairs to find a beautiful doll house built just for you!  It has cute furniture and everything- isn't that every little girls' dream?? You played with it for hours tonight.  Mommy let you stay up extra late to play and you were glued to that house:)

Then Daddy wheeled out your new bike and you were ecstatic!  You've been BEGGING for a bike for months now!  Now you will fit in with all the other neighborhood kids who you've envied for so long.
Seeing your bike being wheeled out :)

We took your bike to Ft. Sherman Park to play today.  Did you know that in Elementary School Mommy helped build that park on a field trip?  It's true!  And 17 years later, here you are playing on it.  What a crazy, awesome thing.  Who knew that when my little 4th grade hands were hammering away at the wood, my 3 year old would someday swing from those beams and run around with a song in her heart!  (You're making me cry again, Lucy!) Oh, the nostalgia!

We then took a little walk down to the beach where I foresee many memories being made this Summer.  CDA Lake is beautiful and so big.  It looks almost like an ocean, and growing up I spent all my Summer days splashing around that lake for hours on end.  This Summer, you get to join me!  How fun!
Go Lucy, Go!

So the next sequence of pictures is adorable and hilarious.  We put the girls on a lifeguard post, and without even telling Piper to, she decided to hug Lucy.....for a LONG time and hold on tight.  And even when Lucy was done with her hug and pushed Pipes away, she still smiled through it all- she LOVES her big Sis SO much!  It was worth sharing the whole thing!
Haha, I love it.  Piper did NOT want to let go of Lucy.  She was giving her birthday hugs! :)

We had a continuation of your birthday after that up at Pop's and Nana's where you got a new Scooter!  You are one lucky little girl.  Not only did you get a cute new scooter, (and earrings!) you also saw Rainbows, played with your cousins, talked to family on the phone, had your "Birthday Meal" of homemade Mac n' Cheese and had the cutest cake ever that had a crown on it- fit for a Princess!  You had a fun day!  Everyone loves you so much Lucy!
So unbelievably in love with this picture!
Kids are so easy to please....Her favorite cereal is Lucky Charms and she was just as excited about a box of that cereal as any of her toys! HA!

Well, I must get ready for bed Sweet girl.  But I couldn't go to sleep without telling you how much I adore you.  I hope you always know that.  And I hope you had the best birthday ever.
Lucy Lu,
I'll love you forever
I'll like you for always
As Long as I'm living
My Baby you'll be.

Love,
Mommy

  1. I LOVED this post. So sweet. I love all the pictures. My favorites are the one in the Roller coaster with her hands up, the rainbow picture and the lifeguard post pictures! I love how much Piper loves Lucy. Haha that was pretty funny that she hung on so long with a smile on her face. That Lifeguard post is where one of Tiffany's senior pictures were taken. Beautiful city of Coeur d'Alene! Beautiful sweet Gilley family.

  2. So sweet, Britt. I love this idea, and I love how special you make birthdays for your girls! Nana doesn't look a day older. And just as sweet as ever. How fun that your girls get to make childhood memories in the same places that you did. The lifeguard hug is CLASSIC. :)
