The Girls of Winter

A little over a year ago I had a post about my best friends titled, The Girls of Summer, and this time around I labeled it The Girls of Winter because while they were here, we were hit hard with a pretty intense snow storm!  Yes! My favorite girl friends in the world came to visit me here in little old Coeur d'Alene, and even though it's March, Mother Nature decided to dump 10 inches of snow on us. More about that later....

It all started with a phone call, in early January, from Lindsay asking "what are you doing February 28th?"...with lots of screams and tears to follow.  Until this last weekend, I hadn't seen these girls for 8 LONG months.  EIGHT!  Much too long to go without your BFF's....Especially since we literally used to see each other every single day.  Not once a week- Every. Day.  These girls have been there for me through the best of times, and the absolute worst of times.  I can't imagine my life without them, and I have missed them so dearly.

Not only did they come and brave the extreme cold weather, but they treated me to a whole weekend of love.  They spoiled me like crazy!  First, they told me they were whisking me away to do something fun, but they wouldn't tell me what it was.  Turns out it was a night of painting canvases in Spokane at a new eclectic art Studio called Pinot's Pallets.  Snow and ice wasn't going to deter us from getting into Downtown Spokane for this, and I'm very glad.  It was the most fun I've had in a long, long time.  At one point, I had tears streaming down my face and I couldn't stop laughing!  You paint while you eat and dance and talk.  The atmosphere is lively and fun.  There's an instructor that teaches you how to paint the picture, step by step, and the girl's and I were laughing pretty hard when we would make some awful mistakes.  In the end, though, our pictures came out pretty great.  Amazing what we could do with some acrylic paint ;-) It was seriously fun.

Another day, we went to Dockside for some yummy Gooey's (and french fries).  So delish!  I had told them how beautiful the view was of the lake and mountains while you eat at Dockside ....and unfortunately the snow was pounding so hard and it was way too foggy to see anything.  We live in a lake town and they never saw the lake.  They pretty much saw the inside of my house and that's it....
The temps were FRIGID!  I felt so bad!  I had visions of us walking downtown and seeing how cute CDA can be, but instead we sat on my couches most of the weekend.  It's OK though.  We had a LOT of catching up to do.  It was funny how we migrated around the house.  We'd be in the kitchen talking for an hour, then somehow we'd move into Piper's room and talk for an hour, and then into Lucy's room, then the couch.  We just kept moving around all day and chatting for hours and hours and hours.  It was SO good for me.  My heart feels much lighter than it has been feeling and I feel so incredibly happy.  A dose of my girls is better than any kind of medicine :)

These girls are something special.... I am not sure that friendships like ours happen to everybody.  Until them, I had NEVER had the kind of friends like this.  Unless you have a true friend like this, you might not even understand what I'm saying.  I guess I didn't know that such a bond like this between girlfriends could exist until I actually found it.  They are everything to me.  I am SO thankful for each and every one of them.  I'm thankful for the honesty that exists between us, and for the love and loyalty we have for each other. I heard a quote once that completely applies to us:  "Girlfriends are the Sisters that we choose for ourselves."  I love that quote. I have amazing Sisters whom I love SO much, but a friendship between these women is something different.  It's rare and special, and I am just so thankful that they sacrificed time and money for me.  They left their families for a few days and spent money to fly here and treat me all weekend.  They're incredible.  I love them so, so, so much.

There were lots and lots of hugs and tears throughout the long weekend, and extreme amounts of laughing going on too.  We maybe got 4 hours of sleep each night? We were all deliriously tired, but it was SO worth it.  We watched funny shows together, we did a Jillian Michael's workout and laughed our way through it, we played Spoons, we ate mountains of junk food, we looked up funny facts on our phones and would laugh til our stomachs ached, we went into Safeway and (accidentally) slipped on ice and water all over the aisles and laughed some more....We just did some random things that were fun to do.  How nice it felt to forget about "Real Life" for a bit and laugh til we cried instead!

Amber and Lindsay wanted to leave their kids behind to get a total break from being "Mommy" for a few days, but Christy brought Cooper, because him and Piper are going to get married someday (YEP!)....and they needed to have some time together.  They hadn't seen each other since they were 6 months old and learning to sit up.  Now they're walking and hugging and kissing each other :)  They had some moments where they played hard-to-get with each other, but they were also pretty cute.  Lucy really had fun playing with Cooper.  He is the BEST baby!  Such a sweet heart!
Lindsay and I now have matching "wedding rings" haha!
The moment that Christy walked into my house on Friday.  I LOVE this girl.  We both cried!
I was trying to make some dessert in fancy cups with the Whip Cream looking all pretty....and it just didn't work out the way I wanted it.  By the time we ate our dessert, the whipped cream had melted into thick white goop....Oh well!
Holding Hands! This is the sweetest!
Shawn and I really want to go visit these friends of ours in Colorado soon so that we get to see all the kids once again and Shawn can see his Guy's.  Never has there been a more perfect relationship between 4 couples.  The guys love each other almost as much as us girls!  Have I mentioned how LUCKY I am? ;-)  Maybe only 500 times, haha!

Anyway, I've said it before and I'll say it again:  I'm SO blessed and THANKFUL for these women.  I had the time of my life!  Next time, it needs to be Summer so we can swim, do Tubbs and Silverwood, and actually get outside in the sunshine :)

Now, back to reality- off to work I go!

  1. The picture of you hugging Christy made me cry. I can see the emotion you were feeling. Great friendships are priceless.
