And then, slowly but surely, the sun came back out and the days warmed back up. The girls suddenly didn't need tights anymore....
...and all of the sudden- BOOM! Summer seemed to appear out of nowhere! Temps in the high 70's/low 80's, sunshine and blue skies! It's almost like we skipped Spring! Maybe not....but the buds on the trees have all started to open up and we can walk outside feeling actual warmth in Summer-time clothing! It feels AHHHH-Mazing! I love it. This is what we've been up to this week:
Was so excited to start planting some flowers- FINALLY! |
We set the sprinkler under the trampoline for Power Bouncing :) |
The girls don't always fight....but when they do, it looks something like this.... Poor Piper!
We had more "bubble parties"
Today we washed the car. As you can see, we have a dirt driveway (I hate it). Anyway, as I was washing, Piper was following me around dipping he sponge in the mud puddles around the car and "cleaning" the spots I had just washed. I discovered that as I came around to the other side of my car and saw the whole thing streaked with mud....She was also jumping and splashing around in the mud puddles and getting mud all over ALL of us! Never again will I enlist her "help."
And although it's been a really nice week, there always has to be SOMEONE out there who rubs you the wrong way.... This is what happened tonight.
I'm pretty laid back when it comes to my neighbors. I never complain about stuff because it's just not worth it. But when someone comes and yells at my little girls for being kids, I GET MAD. The story is this: there is an old stray "neighborhood" cat. Apparently she's been living in our neighborhood for 13 years and everyone knows her. Every day a guy from down the street bikes over and feeds her on the corner of our front yard. When we first moved here he told us that he would be doing this every day 'cause it's what the cat expects. I was fine with it. I like cats and there's no harm done for her to have a meal on my yard each day. Whatever. Well....a few days ago, I was on my back porch where he couldn't see me and I heard him "shooing" and pushing my cat away from the food that he had just left for the stray cat. He was swatting at Lux! Hello, it's my yard, and when my cat smells cat food, he's gonna wanna check it out. Next, Maisy saw the stray cat and went to run up to her to play (Maisy loves cats). The man got mad and told Shawn to keep Maisy away. Today, he went to feed the cat and my girls ran up to pet her. They were in OUR yard and they're curious little kids. I was inside watching them and listening through my screen door and he wasn't aware I could hear him rudely telling them to "get away from the cat!" and "don't bother her!" and "go play somewhere else!" It made me MAD. I went out there and through my gritted teeth I said "please don't tell my kids where they are allowed to play in their own yard. They don't understand that that corner is off limits; it's THEIR yard." He got all defensive and shot back at me a spew of things that I never expected to come out of his mouth about how he shouldn't have to keep track of my dog and my kids and that he "graciously" shares his "high-end kibble" with my cat even though he doesn't have to. I said that if it's such a pain to keep my whole family in line, perhaps he should feed the dang cat in his OWN yard. Once again, he flipped out on me and said "you think I should feed her in my yard? REALLY?! No." I asked him why not? He said "Why not? Why don't you THINK about WHY NOT. GOOD BYE." And he rode away quickly. I don't quite understand what I'm supposed to "think about," but I do know that that cat is no longer going to be eating on my property and if he doesn't like it, TOUGH LUCK. This Mama will NOT stand for strangers telling my kids what they can and can't do when they're on MY property and doing nothing wrong! Woo, long rant (sorry!). But grrrrr....
So, now that we've hopefully dealt with a pesky neighbor, we can go back to being happy in the New Hampshire sun while we can. Who knows how many more Summer's we may have here!
And here's Maisy. All 46 pounds of her :) |
