Summer is in FULL SWING out here!
We were ALLLLLLL excited for Summer to start because that meant that my babysitting job could finally end. FINALLY. That was a rough 5 months. Holy smokes.
The first thing we did was go out to eat as a family and celebrate our freedom! (See Sully's Push-Pop pictures below, hehe). Also, Shawn and I had an outdoor picnic that night too, to kinda celebrate our Anniversary a couple days late. We used the blanket that we bought in Mexico on our honeymoon 7 years ago and had a cute little late night picnic after the kids went to bed.
The things I learned about Camping in Oklahoma:
1)You know those country songs about the South with descriptions of muddy water rivers and lakes? Yep. That’s real. The water was even worse than Eagle Island State Park!Doesn’t matter to the kids though; they still were in heaven.
2) At night, you WILL get attacked by ginormous June bugs that fly down your shirt if you have a flashlight turned on.
3) If you don’t have ear plugs in your ears you won’t be able to sleep because HOLY SMOKES. Those bugs, bull frogs, birds are LOUD. Like, crazy loud.
4) The fireflies are everywhere and I love them.
5) There will be lots of rednecks with full-on mullets and cut off plaid shirts and they will be AWESOME.
7) Don’t even bother with sleeping bags; it’s too hot. WAY too hot.

And even though there are some cons to camping in Oklahoma (much different than the NW for sure!) there is NOTHING better than the smell of campfire, the taste of burnt marshmallows, sleeping under the stars, and waking up to the warm sunshine in the morning. I love camping…. I just need sound-proof earplugs and lots of battery operated fans next time :)
Tennis began for the girls this week too! They have tennis lessons throughout June and it's just the cutest thing.
Tulsa also started up the Free Summer Movies Series on Tuesdays for kids. Popcorn and drink included!
And, the pool is open! Finally! So is our pond for fishing :)
We're back to grilling practically everything AND my garden actually produced some veggies! That was so exciting for me! Can't wait for next Summer to see what else I can grow!
I LOVE Summer!
And FINALLY- the caterpillars that Lucy got for her birthday fattened up, made cocoons and turned into butterflies that we set free just this morning! That whole thing grossed me out. It sounded cool in theory, but watching it all was yucky to me, haha! The cocoons even grossed me out to look at, hahaha! I can't explain it but it did....however, we will be doing it again soon cause it was sooooo cool to the kids! But guess what? As luck would have it, the cocoons ALL hatched when we were gone! We waited 3 weeks for butterflies and of course we missed it! They weren't too bummed about it though. They were just excited to see the butterflies!
Next up: FATHER'S DAY!
