This little fish/water baby/beach bum has always had and still has the cutest bum! 💖Happy 5th birthday to my sweet cheeks! I love you as big as the beach!
Today was a big day in the Gilley household! Our youngest baby girl is a WHOLE HAND! She wasn't very excited to turn 5.... she didn't want to. She thought it was super cool to hold up all 5 fingers, but when I would periodically ask her throughout the day if she had changed her mind yet and "are you finally happy to be 5?" She would say no, she missed being 4 :-) It cracked me up, but by bedtime she was content with her new age. She doesn't handle change very well and a new number is a big change! But, she'll adapt, haha!!
We started the day as usual, with breakfast in bed. She requested French toast, bacon AND sausage.
Then I drove her to school and brought in Christmas cupcakes for my Christmas baby's birthday! The class sang to her, she got a big birthday sticker and pencil and felt very special!
After her school day was over (she's only half day) we came home to "rest" for a bit before Lucy's class Christmas party. Then back to school we went to partake in some Christmas games and fun treats! It would have been more fun if Piper wasn't unusually tired today. But she was and I think it was because she didn't sleep well last night (pre-birthday jitters) and we woke her up this morning a little extra early. The rule with Piper is this: DON'T WAKE HER UP. It's like waking a sleeping bear! Upon entering her dark room this morning while singing "Happy Birthday" she growled at us and told us to go away and let her sleep longer! So Shawn turned the video camera off, sat down on her bed and explained to her that it was time to wake up, let her get used to the idea of morning time, and then we turned the camera back on and resumed our song. She is so hot and cold, that girl!
The boys matched! I love it! |
Anyway, an earlier than normal wakeup time seemed to throw her off all day. She definitely had lots of happiness in spurts, but she was moody and sensitive too! I know it's part of being a kid- a lot of kids are cranky on their birthdays- too much going on! I've seen the home-videos of me as a little girl... I guess she got her moodiness from her Mama! ;-)
Nonetheless, she was definitely a happy girl when opening presents! Thank you to everyone who helped spoil her! She LOVED that hour of the day. She opened them quickly and then happily played the rest of the afternoon!
For dinner my kids get to choose WHATEVER they want as their special birthday dinner... Anything at all. So you know what she chose? Spaghettios. Yep. Spaghettios. We've never eaten Spaghettios for dinner, EVER, but that's what she REALLY wanted! So I went out and bought an 8 pack of them and heated up a huge deep pot full and that's what we all ate! Because what the birthday girl wants, the birthday girl gets!
For dessert she chose make-your-own-icecream-Sundaes instead of cake, so the candles were put in her bowl and she blew them all out in 1 breath :)
The last hour of the day pretty much consisted of melt-downs from the exhausted Pi Baby, but all in all I know she had a great day. And she already told me she can't wait until she get's home from school tomorrow to play with all of her goodies! I get emotional on the night BEFORE my kids' birthdays. I go up and watch them sleep for a bit and stroke their cheeks and feel their soft hair. I try to remember those last moments while they're dreaming before they get a little bit older. So although I wasn't emotional today, last night my heart hurt a little. Growing up is so bittersweet. And she's so beautiful, my goodness. I could stare at her all day.
I just hope she always knows how loved she is, even if she's an age she isn't happy with :)
She's my Pi Baby and I love her more than all the leaves on all the trees.
I love you my sweet Christmas baby. We might not be having a snow storm like we did on this day 5 years ago, but I can promise you that I love you just as much as I did on that snowy winter day when I first held you in my arms. Happy birthday! 💚❤️💚 |
