Cheer Life!

So cheer is in full swing at the Gilley household and we are officially a cheer family. Having two girls in cheerleading takes over everything... it’s just a lot… A lot of money, a lot of time, a lot of energy, and a very considerable amount of coordination between us and their competing schedules. Between the two of them they have four practices a week at different times and different locations and we have two games every Saturday. Plus, a lot of their games are ‘away games’ so Saturday is full of running around Oklahoma, eating fast food while we go, and sitting on those hot metal bleachers cheering THEM on while they cheer the boys on! Thank goodness they’re only cheering during Football season because I don’t think I could do an entire school year of cheer for all sports like they do in high school. It is so much fun for four months but after that I am spent! (In more ways than one!ðŸĪŠ)

But we’re halfway through the season and still loving it so far! Now-whether or not they choose to do cheerleading next year is up in the air at this point- but for now both of them still love it just as much as ever. Piper has a little bit of a hard time watching her older sister do some of the harder cheers that she wants to be able to do but isn’t quite good enough to master yet. I keep trying to tell her that the only reason Lucy is better at certain cheers than her is because Lucy‘s been in cheerleading for three years and this is only Piper‘s first year. So she has that ‘little sister mentality’ where she doesn’t quite feel like she can keep up with her big sister. Regardless, they are both happy as can be on the sidelines cheering their little hearts out! It is truly a JOY to watch them.

Lucy is not sure if she’s gonna do cheer next year. She thinks she wants to start dancing again and quit cheer. To be honest, I will be really sad because she is so fun to watch, especially after three years of tremendous growth as a cheerleader. However, I will support her in whatever she chooses to do as long as she puts her heart into it.

Anyway- here are some pictures of the season so far! We can’t have our annual Pep Rally as usual (thanks Covid) and they have made a lot of silly rules for the season, but I’m just thankful we can all go watch them as a family *WITHOUT MASKS!* and enjoy them!

Look at how beautiful they both are!

I’ll end there because I think I just uploaded way too many! Remember, I’m still blogging on my phone so I can’t go back and make edits easily, therefore, it’s hard for me to see the whole post while I go. Sorry if it was major picture overload- I tend to not know how to stop myself 😉🙃
