Shawn's 35th Birthday

Wow. It's been 5 weeks since I blogged and it seems like I just sat down last night to blog about the Holidays.  January didn't even go by fast though. So I' don't know how that works.... Anyway, I've got a couple of blogs I will write this week, and THIS one is about Shawn.  Even though he's NOT a morning person and he's in the next room over being a cranky tired man at the moment, I'm not going to think about that ;-)  I'll recall the un-cranky guy in him while I blog about him.
The good thing about Shawn is that even when he's cranky, he's pretty easy to reel back in.  He snaps quickly (so do I, though) but he also gets over it fast.  So that's a good quality of his, haha!
Anyway, his birthday fell on a dreaded Monday this year.  The Super Bowl was on Sunday and the kids obviously didn't have school, so we kinda celebrated it all on Sunday.  It was a 70 degree day so we went to the park for a bit, we played in the back yard, we did breakfast in bed on Sunday (no one wants to make breakfast in bed at 6am on a Monday!) and we also opened presents that day.  He wanted Super Bowl food that was fun! And then we watched the Patriots win, again (insert eye-roll here).
After the game, we were so miserably stuffed that we turned on Just Dance and danced for a good 30 minutes to try to get our food moving.  We haven't played Just Dance in a couple of years but it looks like my skills have improved and his haven't!  I beat him TWICE and that's actually never happened.  Usually he always wins.  But I won 2 out of 3, so I'm pretty proud of myself!
It was a fun day! I love this guy.  He's a great provider, the love of my life, an awesome Daddy and a really good friend.  Honestly, he IS my best friend.  I don't know what I'd do without him.  He's good to me and the kids and he makes me laugh EVERY SINGLE DAY.  Even when he's cranky.  I can usually get him to crack a smile and get over it all quickly ;-)  Shawn, when you read this, you can't get mad at me for telling the world you're cranky in the mornings because I'm also telling the world how in love with you I am, so it all balances out.  Good thing you enjoy my sarcasm and jabs!  That's one of the things I love about you.  You love to joke around with me.  Our house is always full of jokes and laughter.  I love this life with you :)
The next day was super low-key for him.  I felt a little bad 'cause it was his actual birthday but he was fine. He went golfing (his most favorite thing in the world) and I went and picked up a secret surprise for him! A few days earlier I was looking around for a King Cake and I found ONE bakery in Oklahoma that makes them! The reason they make them is because the owner is from Louisiana, but I'm lucky 'cause they live right here in Tulsa!
If you don't know about King Cake, it's an old Louisiana tradition.  There is a little plastic baby hidden in each cake and whoever finds it is said to have a year of good fortune and good luck.  BUT- King Cake is ONLY made in the weeks leading up to Mardi Gras, so Shawn got it around his birthday each year growing up.  His parents sent us one a few years back on his birthday and I remember that Shawn was so happy to get to eat one again! After seeing how excited it had made him that year, every year after that I kept hoping we'd be able to afford to have one shipped to us from Louisiana, but it just cost too much money.   However, this year I dug around a bit to find the bakery that makes them just 10 minutes from my house and surprised him with it.  It was such a fun surprise!
Lucy was the one who found the baby!  Since I gave birth to her, I'm hoping her good fortune kinda means MY good fortune as well ;-)
The kids wanted to paint Daddy a mural for his birthday :)
The King Cake was eaten on his actual birthday, and the pint of ice cream was eaten the day before.  All he wanted was Halo Salted Caramel Ice cream for dessert that day, so we put 35 candles in it and gave him exactly what he wanted :)
The King Cake Baby!
